Wise Action for Mental Health Awareness Week

This Mental Health Awareness Week, the theme is Action - and I think that's a powerful one.

And I've also been thinking about what kind of action really helps.

In my work as a counsellor, I find the idea of wise action to be really helpful.  In other words, not just doing something,  but choosing the right thing,  at the right moment.  Action that comes from what the situation actually requires rather than from old habitual reactions that are no longer helpful.

That also sums up what The Upward Spiral is about.  It’s not about dramatic change or forcing yourself to push through. Instead taking initial ‘small’ achievable steps, which taken gently can begin to shift the direction of travel.

Sometimes the wisest action is the smallest one.  And sometimes it starts with simply deciding to talk to someone.   What will your wise action be?
